Courses for Local Government

We have trained hundreds of local government people over the past decade. We have conducted training courses for The Centre for Local Government at the University of New England and for Ku-ring-gai, Leichhardt, Ashfield, Campbelltown, Wollongong, Woolahra, Warringah, Drummoyne Councils and many other Councils.

We provide the following courses to local councils:

Mediation Training Course for Council Officers and Councillors
A 2 day training course teaching Council Officers and Councillors how to mediate development , building and other disputes. Topics include: dealing with angry/difficult people, identifying needs, breaking impasses, reconciling competing interests, setting up the mediation process, skills of the mediator, communication skills, dealing with large groups.

This course is conducted by experienced mediators/facilitators of complex local government disputes, including the White City Development, Lucas Heights Landfill Extension, and Belrose Road Corridor.

The Accord Group has mediated numerous local government disputes and large scale community issues.

Conflict Resolution Training
A 2 day training course which is suitable for any staff who deal with the public or are involved in conflict situations. Staff will learn the skills required to resolve conflict one-on-one or with large groups. Can be conducted as 4 half day workshops. Topics include: dealing with angry/difficult people, good communication skills, sources of conflict, managing expectations, problem solving, good customer service.

Custom Designed Training
We can design a course to meet your training objectives and to cater to special needs within the group. We are happy to provide Councils with a custom designed program at no cost.

Cost
Our in-house training courses cost $3,300 (incl GST) per day which includes a thorough course manual (local government specific), roleplays, two course leaders, videos and a custom designed course program. Photocopying is to be paid by the client.
